Quality Components: Part 2- FormFonts

Part 1 of this series on quality components focused on generic, lightweight models provided by the SketchUp team. This post is about another great resource for quality SketchUp models: FormFonts.

The model creators at FormFonts have been at it for almost 15 years. It’s a subscription service, but you can download up to 30 models every day. And if you need something they don’t have, you can request that they make it for you.

Whatever you get from FormFonts is sure to be well-constructed, correctly-sized, and as lightweight as possible given the necessary level of detail.

To see what they have on offer, head over to FormFonts and browse their model library. (They also offer background images and SketchUp styles).

As an example, if you need an oven, you’ll find over 60 results, from generic to specific. (Plus an oven mitt.)

Yes, you’ll find a zillion more oven models in the 3D Warehouse. Many of these are great models – submitted by product companies. But you’ll have to wade through a lot of models to find (or fix) just what you want.

FormFonts has a few free things as well. In the 3D Warehouse, they go by the author name “formfonts3d.” So you could search for “tree author:formfonts3d.” Or, if you want to see their entire collection, use this search syntax:

Next up in Part 3: Podium Browser.
